This adorable round box was painted in the traditional style of Palekh lacquered miniature by the experienced artist Pochanina Vera.
The box shows a warm summer day in a Russian village. Happy villagers are came out for a dance and sign the songs at the glade of the forest, the others (mostly males) are playing on the musical instruments- flute and balalaykas, a lad inside the circle(in the middle of the composition) is holding accordion over his haed. Girls are having the wreaths of wild flowers in their heads. They all enjoy warmth of summer time! Looks like some girls are claping their hands to the rhythm of the music!!!
The palette is full of greens and reds to represent the idea of a warm summer day. Thwe artist paints the costumes of the peasants in bright reds and oranges to focus a viewer's attention of them. All minute details are enhanced with lustrous gold and silver paint!
The composition is painted on a lid of the box. The decoration of the sides is marvelous, richly painted in gold and silver paints!
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is not hinged and the box rests flat.
The artist has signed the box with her name, Palekh and '13 (2013).
