This attractive Palekh box was painted by Brovkina Natalie.
Here the artist has depicted a scene from the most popular Russian fairy-tales, "Snegurochka," in English known as "The Snowmaiden." In the middle of the composition we can see Lel. Snowmaiden is staying on the top of the hill. The Sprimg has come and Snowmaiden is start melting. We can see a hot red Sun on the backstage of the scene. This is Snowmaiden's Good-buy song.
Also the artist has painted the faces to the trees in the forest.
The palette is bright, and filled with a rich spectrum of tempera paints.
The black background provides separation of the sky and earth. Gold and aluminum paint details a majority of the scene, which makes the details bring the scene to life!
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. Rich gold and silver ornamentation frames the scene, and another expanded gold pattern, accented with aluminum, wraps around the sides of the box. The box has a hinge from the left of the composition and rests on four small round legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, title and Palekh.
