This traditional Palekh box was painted by Figurin Alexey Alexandrovich (1910-1971) in 1966. Figurin is a Veteran of World War II, has rewards. He used to study under the guidance of of famous Ivan Vakurov (1929-1930).
The box shows a scene from Vasilisa the Beautiful fairy tale, where we can see a hut of Baba Yaga, Vasilisa itself and one of the riders, that are appeared in the fairy tale.
Gold beads decorate the edges of the lid and the bottom border of the box. The sides of the box are adorned with beautiful gold floral ornamentation.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged at the top of the scene, and the box rests on flat bottom. It is signed with the name of the artist, the village of Palekh, and a year.
