Description: This very detailed classical Palekh scene is a creation of a Honored Artist of Russia, famous Master Nina Bogachova(born in 1941).
The work is calling " Maiden went out for a Water" and shows a romantic pair on a village street. A guy is calling a maiden carrying two backels full of water with the shoulder-yoke and try to talk to her.
The scene is based on a folk Russian song:
" Maiden went out for a Water, cold and Spring,
She was followed by a guy, she was followed by the guy,
He has asked her to stop, he has asked her to stop,
Let's go for the Water together, it is fun to come together!
The plot of the song is following:
The girl asked the guy not to scream on the street,
because her father is at home and can see them dating.
But the guy said, that he is not afraid of meeting with her Dad,
because he is serious and has a engaging ring.
And maiden told him, that ring is important,
but most important real feelings and love...
On the background we can see a couple of older ladies, who gossip about this young pair.
The palette for this composition contains a wide spectrum of bright and vivid colors. Gold paint, applied with extreme precision, details almost every aspect of the composition. The edges of the lid are decorated with a simple pattern composed of gold beads. More complex gold rolling pattern can be found wrapping around the box's sides.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box and red lacquer is used to paint the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title " Out for the Water", Palekh and the year of 2019.
