This adorable large box was painted in the traditional style of Palekh lacquered miniature by the experienced artist, Suloeva Nina.
The box shows a warm summer day in a Russian village. Happy villagers are came out to dance and sign the songs at the glade of the forest, the others (mostly males) are playing on the musical instruments- flute and mandoline. Girls are having the wreaths of wild flowers in their heads. They all enjoy warmth of summer time!
The palette is full of greens and reds to represent the idea of a summer season. Suloeova paints the costumes of the peasants in bright reds and oranges to focus a viewer's attention of them. All minute details are enhanced with lustrous gold and silver paint.
The composition is painted on a lid and framed with simple gold pattern , the edges of the lid are covered with a beautiful ornament painted in gold. The decoration of the sides is marvelous, richly painted in gold and silver!
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top and the box rests on four legs.
The artist has signed the box with her name, Palekh and 2019.
