Description:

This complex multi-figured composition has been painted by a talented artist Natalya Kornilova from the village of Palekh. Her works are very popular among collectors all over the world.
The theme for this work is the story of the Twelve Months. In this fairy tale the cruel stepmother sends her stepdaughter out to fetch some spring forest flowers called "snowdrops". The girl sadly goes to the forest where she comes across the Twelve Months, who one after another change seasons to help her, and she is able to return home with the flowers her stepmother demanded.
The depicted scene shows the girl and the Twelve months warming themselves near the bonfire. Each character has an individual appearance, and it is pretty easy to figure out which month is which. The drawing is full of intricate details. The landscape is formed with accurate brushwork that smoothly depicts trees covered with countless leaves, flowers, animals, and plants.
Everything is in perfect harmony with each other. The palette for this piece contains a wide spectrum of bright and vivid colors. Gold and silver paints, applied with extreme precision, detail almost every aspect of the composition!
The box's exterior is decorated with intricately painted gold patterns. This pattern is framed the composition on a lid and wraps the sides of the box.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box and red lacquer is used to paint the interior of the box.
The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests flat. The work is signed with the name of the artist and the village of Palekh.
