This peaceful scene has been painted by Olga Bonokina from the village of Palekh. This box shows a Summer activity of the villagers.
In the center of this composition we can see a family of four: father, mother, daughter and son. Mom and daughter are holding baskets in their hands, they are going to pick the berries. In the hands of the father and son of the scythe, they are on the way to mow the grass, which will make hay to feed the cow in the winter.
On the background to the right we can see some villagers gone out of their homes and stroll in the woods, filling their baskets with ripe, mellow berries. Forests in Russia are rich in different gifts of nature. It's possible to find there all kind of forest berries such as the wild raspberry and strawberry, the whortle-berry, the cranberry and a large selection of mushrooms.
To the left we can see a Shepherd Boy herding cows and sheeps.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid of the box and it's sides are decorated with rich and intricate gold and silver ornamentation.
A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh, and the year of 2016.
