This interesting box is a work of a talented and well-known Palekh artist, Ekaterina Bykova. It shows a fantasy scene including a flying ship with people wearing medieval clothes. A lady to the left is possibly tore the string with the beads. To the left, on the back of the ship we can see a Bird of the size of a Boy, who is near her... The ship is flying over the beautiful Summer Landscape.
The scene is framed with an ornamentatio painted in gold.The edges of the lid are framed with a gold line, while we can find another lane of ornamention on the lid. The sides of the box are decoraed with intricate gold feligree as well.
The box's exterior is covered with a black lacquer. The interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a wavy platform. On the lid's interior the artist has written her name, Palekh, the title ("Wonderful Country"), the year of 2008.
