The painting on a lid of this chest, devided into four parts, was painted by a telented Palekh artist, Konovalova Valentina.
This treasure chest has four compartments on the top, they all can be open up with the lids, and a drawer at the lower part of the front side.
All the surface of the chest shows winter outdoor fun in countryside.
On the lid we can see children are making snow man.
On the left side- A fisherman is engaged in fishing and trying to catch fish from a hole in the ice.
On the front side- two ladies are getting a water to their buckets from the well .
On the back side, there is a young couple skating on the ice of a frozen river.
And on the last side, we can see a hunter with a dog and a rifle in his hands in the forest.
The drawing is colorful and filled with intricate details. Bright red, orange, yellow, and blue color patches seem to be brighter against the black background. The details of the painting are headlined with gold and silver paints.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior.
The composition is framed with thick golden dots on the edges of the lid. The sides of the box are decorated with very intricate pattern of gold and silver paint.
The chest has hinges at all four lids and rests on six wavy legs.
The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Palekh.
