Description:

The painting on a lid of this chest, devided into four parts, was painted by a telented Palekh artist, Kritova Galina.
This treasure chest has four compartments at the top, they all can be open up with the lids, and a drawer at the lower part of the front side.
The painting is based on a tale of Ivan Tsarevich and the grey Wolf.
The Fairy-tale tells about the adventures of the Prince Ivan Tsarevich and his companion the Grey Wolf, a magician. After the wolf ate Ivan's horse, they became partners in crime. The wolf felt sorry for Ivan, and he helped him in his quest to get Elena to be his bride. The Gray Wolf even helps Ivan when his brothers murder him and throw his remains in a bucket, out to sea. When the wolf gets the waters of life and death, Ivan is able to be alive again and go back to avenge his brothers. It is only then that Elena is able to marry the man she truly loves. Who knows if this would have happened if the Gray Wolf would not have been hungry the day Ivan's horse crossed its path.
On the lid we can see Ivan trying to catch one of the Fire-birds.
On the left side- Ivan and Elena the Beautiful are flew on the Magic flying carpet.
On the front side- beautiful oramental composition with Fire-Bird.
On the back side, Ivan is flying in the sky on a Magic horse.
And on the last side, we can see Ivan with Elena the beautiful are riding a magic grey Wolf with a Fire-Bird in a cage.
The drawing is colorful and filled with intricate details. Bright red, orange, yellow, and blue color patches seem to be brighter against the black background. The details of the painting are headlined with gold and silver paints.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior.
The composition is framed with intricate gold ornamentation on the edges. The sides of the box are decorated with very intricate pattern of gold and silver paint.
The chest has hinges at all four lids and rests on eight wavy legs.
The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Palekh and 2017.
