Description: This five-sided casket has been painted by a talented artist Kuzmenko Galina from the village of Palekh. The casket's lid and all its four sides show the scenes from Russian folk fairy-tales!
On the lid of the casket we can see Troyka- the three horses sledging in a winter.
On the front side we can see Snowmaiden, her parents-Father Frost and Fairy Spring and villagers (from Snowmaiden fairy-tale). On the back side- tale of a Silver Hoof. On a right side-tale of Twelve Months. On a left side-tale of Morozko.
A broad spectrum of colors is used to create this highly detailed work. The artist leaves the sky black, which is one of Palekh's stylistic trademarks, but does not mean that the scene is taking place at night. Gold paint and aluminum paints are used to enhance the life and brightness of the scenes.
The painting on a lid is framed with a golden dot ornament.
The edges of a lid are decorated with a golden flower style ornament. The compositions on the base of the casket are decorated with gold filigree patterns accented with aluminum paint.
The casket is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the box is painted with black lacquer while the interior is completed with red lacquer. The lid is hinged from the top of the casket, and the box rests on four legs.
Under the composition on the lid the artist has wrote her name, title- Russian Fairy-tales and the village of Palekh.
