Description: This festive five-sided casket has been painted by a talented Palekh artist, Alexander Kornilov.
The box's lid and all it's four sides show the scenes from Russian fairy-tales!
On a lid of the box we can see a moment of Wedding Party from tale of Tsar Saltan, after Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. Prince Gvidon and Princess swan are getting married, father of Prince Gvidon, Tsar Salatn, came to the island of Buyan to learn more about his son...
On the front side of a casket we can see the scene from tale of the Sleeping Princess and Seven Bogatirs.
On a back side of the box there is a scene from a tale of Golden Cockerel.
On a right side of the box we can see a tale of a Golden fish.
On a left side we can see a scene another Pushkin's tale of Ruslan and Ludmila.
A broad spectrum of red, green,yellow and blue colors is used to create this interesting work. And those colours are very traditional for Palekh style!
The background is painted in black color. Gold paint and aluminum paints are used to enhance the life and brightness of the scenes.
The composition on the lid is framed with a golden ornament, same as the edges of the base of the box, all four sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the box is painted with black lacquer, while the interior is completed with red lacquer. The lid is hinged from the top of the casket, and the box rests on four legs.
The artist has signed the box with the artist's name, title- Russian fairy tales and the village of Palekh.
