In 2003 the All-Russia Museum of Decorative Applied and Folk Arts organized the exhibition "Russian Lacquer Miniature. Origin and Contemporary". It was dedicated the development and history of Russian lacquer miniature art, and exhibited old Fedoskino, Palekh, Kholui and Mstera lacquered boxes painted in the 19th and the 20th centuries along with the boxes created by modern lacquer miniature artists, representatives of all four villages.
The same year when the exhibition was finished, the printing office "Yantarny Skaz" published the book and the catalogue entitled after the name of this exhibition. Both these editions were written by the research workers of the lacquer miniature department of the All-Russia museum of decorative applied and folk arts: department chief L.L. Pirogova, senior research worker M.I. Lukina, research worker E.N. Osipova. They include the information on the development and history of Russian lacquer art and display the colorful photos of the boxes that took part in this exhibition.
The catalogue "Russian Lacquer Miniature. Origin and Contemporary" has the soft cover. It includes the list of all boxes that were displayed at the exhibition "Russian Lacquer Miniature. Origin and Contemporary" in 2003. This list gives a detailed description of each box mentioning its author, its theme, materials that were used to make it, and a museum where it is kept. It also includes the splendid photos of the most interesting boxes displayed at this exhibition. They are made by A.N. Mamin. All information is written both in Russian and English languages.
The book "Russian Lacquer Miniature. Origin and Contemporary" has the hard cover. It includes the big article written by L.L. Pirogova on the theme of development and history of Russian lacquer miniature art; gorgeous photos (made by A.N. Mamin) of the most interesting boxes displayed at the exhibition "Russian Lacquer Miniature.
