It depicts a turning point in the history of his canonization. The Sovereign Passion-bearer, as is well known, having familiarized himself with the Chronicle, expressed to the Holy Synod His opinion about the undoubted holiness of the Monk and the desirability of his beatification to the face of saints, after which St. The Synod created a commission and adopted a resolution on the glorification of the Tsar and the people by faith, contrary to the previously existing doubts of its individual members.
Green, brown and red-orange tones of the character's costumes look wonderful against the mustard background earth and Churches. There are numerous sharp details in the clothing of the characters, architectural structures and in the designs patterned upon the clothing. The artist completes all of this precise execution without the use of a magnifying device. The application of bright gold contours adds luster to the composition. The halos shine angelic around the heads of the family and the two Saints while the design work upon their clothing twinkles when the piece is moved or viewed from different angles!
The edges of the icon are richly decorated with coinage made on pasted gold leaves.
