About Feodorovskaya icon of the Mother of God.
Legend has it that the Feodorov icon was painted by the holy Apostle and evangelist Luke.
In the Russian land, she was found in 1239, served as a prayer image to St. Alexander Nevsky, and then appeared to his younger brother Vasily Yaroslavich near the main city of his appanage principality - Kostroma.
It got its name from the temple in which it was erected by Prince Vasily - the The first glorification of the Feodorov icon dates back to the XII century. The holy image was located in a wooden chapel near the ancient Gorodets. The inhabitants of these places revered the icon as miraculous. In the middle of the XII century, the Feodorovsky Gorodetsky Monastery was built on the site of the chapel. During the Batu invasion in 1238, Gorodets was burned to the ground. The monastery also burned down. It was thought that the icon also perished in the fire, but some time later the Most Holy Theotokos again revealed Her miraculous image. It happened like this. Prince Vasily of Kostroma, the younger brother of the blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky, hunting, went deep into the forest thicket. He saw an icon on a pine tree and tried to take it off, but it suddenly rose into the air. Amazed by this miracle, returning to the city, he told the clergy about what had happened. The procession, accompanied by many people, went to the place where the icon was located. A prayer service was served in front of her, after which the clergy, after kneeling prayer, removed the image from the tree and took it to Kostroma, where they put it in the cathedral of Theodore Stratilat. Hence the name of the icon. At the place of her appearance, a monastery was founded in the name of the Miraculous Image of the Savior, on the day of the celebration of which the Feodor icon was found.

Hence the name of the icon. At the place of her appearance, a monastery was founded in the name of the Miraculous Image of the Savior, on the day of the celebration of which the Feodor icon was found.
On the very first day of the miraculous icon's stay in the cathedral, many sick and suffering from unclean spirits gathered to her, and many of them were cured of their illnesses and demons by the grace poured out from the icon. Many worshippers began to flock to the worship of the holy image. Among them were residents of Gorodets. They immediately recognized in the newly appeared image the icon that had been with them before.
A few years later, the cathedral was destroyed by fire. Everyone was very sad, thinking that the icon had also burned down, but on the third day after the fire it was found in the ashes completely undamaged by fire. A stone cathedral was built on the site of the burnt one, where the shrine was placed.
In 1260, Tatars approached Kostroma, and the city was threatened with complete ruin - a fate that had already befallen many Russian cities. The prince and the inhabitants of the city placed all their hope on the Most Holy Theotokos and prayed to Her to save the city. When the Russian army moved towards the enemy, the icon was carried after them, and the priests sang prayers on the move. The armies converged. And then a miracle happened. Dazzling rays of light, brighter than the sun, shone from the miraculous image and, falling on the Tatars, blinded and scorched them. The Tatars fled in fear.
The election of Mikhail Romanov to the kingdom is connected with the Feodorov icon of the Most Holy Theotokos. The ambassadors chosen from all over the Russian land, having come to Kostroma and heading to the Ipatievsky Monastery, where young Mikhail and his mother, the nun Martha, stayed, lifted the miraculous Feodor icon from the temple. For a long time, the nun Marfa did not consent to the high vocation of her son. But then, in tears, falling to her knees in front of the Feodor icon, she said: "That will be done, Lady! Into Your most pure hands I betray my child! According to Your will, arrange what is useful to him and to all Orthodox Christianity". With the accession of Mikhail Feodorovich, the time of troubles ended in Russia.
