Description: This box was created by the talented Fedoskino painter Nadezda Andreevna Arefyeva. The peaceful scene shows peasants playing the dominoes game. In Russia this game has always been very popular. People from big cities, small towns and villages equally like to play the dominoes. In summer pensioners and young people enjoy playing this game outdoors, in winter they make a visit to each other to play different games and communicate indoors.
The scene painted in a traditional folk style, has a genuineness about it that is truly very appealing. Fedoskino, and before that the Lukutin and Vishnyakov factories, are famous for rural scenes like this and this one has just that look that will span many generations. Time-honored traditional Fedoskino techniques are used to paint the box including gold foil in the areas of architecture, characters' costumes and throughout a beautiful rural landscape. All faces are painted extremely well. The costumes are drawn so skillfully that it is possible to see even the smallest details: buttons, belts, stand-up collars, and so on. Gold and other bright colors laid against the black background add festive atmosphere to the scene. The miniature is notable for clear composition, subtle graphic technique and rich, bright coloring.
The box is made out of paper-mache made. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. Gold ornamentation frames the scene, while another gold design wraps around the sides of the box. The interior also includes the Fedoskino
