This marvelous landscape was painted by the talented Fedoskino artist V.V. Sindyukov. Here the artist has tried to reflect the state of nature before the beginning of thundershower. Dark ominous clouds in the sky creep slowly towards a small village, ready to engulf it in the rain. The strong wind blows violently, swinging mighty trees with luxuriant crowns and green grass. The smooth surface of the twisting river reflects the flashes of lightning. Somewhere far off, behind the horizon, the heavy shower has already began.
The composition is executed scrupulously, with all the details of the landscape faithfully reproduced. The leaves and foliage in the trees are painted with by dabbing paint to blur and give the appearance that there are a great amount of leaves in the painted area. By placing the point of view into the immediate foreground the background vanishes into several points, which is a trick artists use to create depth through perspectives.
The colors taken from the palette are very natural and realistic. Dark and light green tones are used to paint the trees and the grass, dark and light blue tones are used to paint the river and the sky. Gold dust seems to have been sprinkled in certain parts of the composition to add an almost unnoticeable sparkle to the piece.
The box is constructed out of heavy and dense paper-mache. Its sides are adorned with beautiful gold patterns. The exterior of the box is painted with black lacquer and the interior is painted with red lacquer. The interior also includes the Fedoskino
