This early spring landscape was painted by M. Ershkova from the village of Fedoskino. The snow has just melted and exposed the ground covered with dry grass. Water from melted snow has formed big puddles and streams. The trees are covered with green, fresh foliage, and in some areas with dry last year's foliage.
The composition is painted in gold and grey-bluish tones. Aluminum paint is used to paint the sky, the stream in the foreground, the puddles in the background, and also to highlight the trees. Gold powder is used to paint the meadow covered with dry grass, and also to highlight some of the trees.
The box is constructed out of heavy and dense paper-mache. The exterior of the box is painted with black lacquer and the interior is painted with red lacquer. The composition is framed with two parallel gold lines; the sides of the box are also decorated with two parallel gold lines. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition and the box sits flat. The box is signed with the artist's name, village and year (2003).
