Description: This colorful scene was painted by T. Soloninkina from the village of Fedoskino. She is a daughter of the famous Fedoskino master Nicholay Mikhailovich Soloninkin. Here she has chosen to depict a scene from peasant life. The two lovely maidens are gathering ash berries at the garden to make jelly. A young peddler leans over the fence and starts promoting his wares. "Look at these gorgeous beads", he says and shows a strand to the girl in the green shawl. The girls stops gathering berries and look at the necklace excitedly.
This round papier mache box is made in the village of Fedoskino. The exterior of the box is covered with black lacquer, while the interior is traditionally red. The scene is framed with elegant gold patterns. The sides of the box are decorated with a streamlined gold filigree. The lid is not hinged and the base is has no legs. Traditional pill box shape. The work is signed and dated (2002) by the artist.
