Description: This beautiful landscape has been painted by Travkina from the village of Fedoskino. It is an interpretation of the famous canvas-on-oil painting called "Rye"
painted in 1878 by the great Russian artist Ivan Shishkin.
Travkina could perfectly comprehend the original and repeat Shishkin's artistic ideas. And at the same time she bravely interpreted the original bringing in a vivid open feeling. She has used a brighter color palette than Shishkin. The sky in her composition is deep blue, while the rye is of mellow straw-colour. The combination of these contrast colors looks strikingly beautiful. Aluminum dust seems to have been sprinkled in certain parts of the composition to add an almost unnoticeable sparkle to the piece.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests flat. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Fedoskino.
