This beautiful oval box has been created by Dunaev from the village of Fedoskino. This artist is interested in painting picturesque landscapes; it is his favorite theme in lacquer miniature painting. Here he has chosen to depict the winter scene featuring the small church located in the park, and a mother with her child wending their way to this church to attend evening service. The palette is cool, and dominated by blues and whites. A piece of mother-of-pearl creates the brilliance of sunset in the dark evening sky.
The scene is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are also decorated with a gold line. Both exterior and interior of this oval box are covered with red lacquer.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino, and the year of 2005.
