The landscape painted here is by Butsinskiy of Fedoskino. The time of year is obviously autumn, as the hay has already gathered and nature is preparing winter. The colors during this time of year are astonishing to look at.
The palette used by the artist is a reflection for the time of year depicted here. Earth tones make up the majority of the colors to convey the idea of decay and autumn.
The scene is framed with a gold line; two parallel gold lines decorate the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition. The box rests on a flat bottom. It is signed and dated (1995) by the artist at the bottom of the composition.
