This peaceful landscape was pained by Simonov from the village of Fedoskino. It features locality typical for Russian countryside. It is filled with hills covered with fresh, green grass and bushes, the small river crossed by a small winding path running somewhere, the golden field of ripe wheat lined with the dense forest and the endless blue sky.
Different shades of green suitable for reproduction of a summer setting have been used here. Mother-of-pearl is inlaid into two parts of the composition. One of them is inlaid into the portion of the river, while another one is inlaid in the portion of the sky. With the help of mother-of-pearl the artist has achieved the beautiful effect of the sky's and the river's brilliance.
The scene is framed with a gold line, while the edges of the lid are decorated with gold and aluminum scrolling patterns. The same patterns decorate the bottom border of the box. The sides of the box have been sprayed with gold and aluminum powder of different shades. This original ornamentation resembles the coloring of a stone. The exterior bottom of the box is covered with black lacquer and the box's interior is covered with red lacquer.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on four legs. The box is signed with the artist's name, village and year (2005).
