This beautiful oval box was painted by an expert of this genre, Dunaev, from the village of Fedoskino. It features the state of nature before the storm. The ominous clouds in the sky creep slowly ready to engulf it in rain. The scanty sunlight that struggles through the dense clouds is reflected in the water of the river. Trees, bushes and grass bend before the wind. In the morning, or whenever the storm decides to pass, the sky will be clear, the birds will be singing, and the land will feel alive once again.
The colors taken from the palette are very natural and realistic, which enhances the quality of the landscape in the way it was rendered. Mother-of-pear helps to reproduce reflection of the sunlight in the water.
The scene is framed with gold beads.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition. The box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed and dated (2005) by the artist at the bottom of the composition.
