This elegantly shaped box is the creation of Danchenko from the village of Fedoskino. It features the forest man feeding the birds. The scene is painted in soft creamy oils. Bright gold metal leaf sparkles through the forest man's hat. Gold metal leaves of smaller size can be found in his lapti (peasant footwear), in the ornaments that decorate his shirt, in the patches on his trousers; gold metal leaf also shines through the body of each bird.
The scene is decorated with original patterns of dots that are constructed from gold metallic punch-outs - these are hand punched from the metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box. Gold metallic punch-outs also decorate the sides of the box.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and dark red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition and the box rests on legs. Signed with the name of the artist, the title ("Forest Man"), the village of Fedoskino, and the year of 2006 at the bottom of the scene.
