The talented Fedoskino artist Yashonkova N. painted this colorful box on the theme of Russian circus. The clown sits on the big suitcase where he keeps his artistic equipment, and rehearses his trick with a dog dancing on the ball. At this moment other clowns perform before the audience in the circus ring.
Blues, oranges and maroons dominate here. Gold paint is used as an underlayer to create brilliance of many elements of the composition such as the ball the dog is dancing on, small balls scattered nearby; the clown's tie, buttons and cuffs on his costume; and one of the masks painted in the right upper corner. Gold paint also highlights some minor elements as the hoop, the pedestal on which the cat sits, the cat's bow, the sun painted in the left upper corner and the small hoops the clown on the scene juggles with.
The scene is set into the irregular square with wavy edges outlined with gold paint; it has been done to create the illusion of the curtains. The box's exterior is covered with yellow-cream paints; its interior is dark red. On the box's exterior bottom the artist has painted in gold paints two masks
