Description: This box that features a moment from the Russian folk fairy-tale "Geese and Swans" is a creation of M. Buzovkin. This tale is about a little boy, Ivanushka, who was kidnapped by the wicked birds, Geese and Swans, by the order of Baba-Yaga. The boy's sister, Alyonushka, started searching her brother, and found him in Baba-Yaga's house. Later the children could successfully escape from that place, but Geese and Swans began pursuing them. Only with the help of the Apple-Tree, the River and the Stove, the children were saved.
Here we can see a moment when the children ask the Apple-tree to hide them from Geese and Swans. The Apple-Tree answers: "Eat my ripe apples, and I will help you!" The children eat the apples, the Apple-Tree hides them with its branches, and Geese and Swans fly past them.
The scene is painted against the black background that helps the colors look brighter. Gold paint is used to paint the apples; gold powder highlights the tree, and the grass.
The scene is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with the intricate gold leafy ornamentation.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged at the top, and the box sits flat. Signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino, and the year of 2003. The Fedoskino "troika" insignia can be found on the interior of the lid.
