Dunaev from the village of Fedoskino is a creator of this marvelous seascape. This artist specializes in painting landscapes and marine scenes.
The famous canvas-on-oil painting called "The Seashore at Night" painted in 1837 by Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky inspired Dunaev to create this box. This masterpiece is exhibited in the Art Museum named after I.K. Aivazovsky situated in the town of Feodosia (Ukraine).
Refined oil-painting techniques give this piece depth and life. The palette used is full of dark oils as the action takes place at night. Mother-of-pearl creates the sparkle of the sky, and enlivens the dark palette of the scene. Great movement in the water is painted very naturally showing the seemingly random wave directions.
The scene is framed with gold beads.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged at the top, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed and dated (2006) by Dunaev.
