Description:

This splendid Fedoskino box that shows the town of Pavlovsk has been created by Bebikhov.
The town of Pavlovsk which is famous for its palace and park ensemble is located 26 kilometers to the south of Saint Petersburg. The history of Pavlovsk dates back to the 12th of December, 1777 when Catherine the Great gifted a small land, 6 km from Tsarskoye Selo, to her son Paul and his wife Maria Fyodorovna on the occasion of the birth of their first son, the future Emperor Alexander I. The new estate was named Pavlovskoye Village, but shortly after the construction of the palace and the park this place could hardly be called a village. Prominent architects, such as Cameron, Brenna, Quarenghi, Voronikhin, Rossi and Gonzago as well as hundreds of Russian craftsmen worked for decades to create the ensemble of parks and palaces of Pavlovsk. The landscape park of Pavlovsk is one of the largest in Europe - it stretches on the impressive territory of 600 hectares.
Nowadays the Palace of Pavlovsk houses the permanent exhibition of Russian portrait. The visitors are welcome to walk through the chambers of Empress Maria Fyodorovna, admire the original interiors and belongings of Russian tsars, created for them by the best artists of that time.
The scene is framed with a gold line, while the box's sides are adorned with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. The exterior of the piece is painted with black lacquer while the interior is painted with red lacquer. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name, and the village of Fedoskino.
