Description: This alluring piece of genuine Russian artistry was composed by the talented Oleg Yastrebov from the village of Fedoskino. Yastrebov has a peculiar painting style notable for aesthetic beauty, and creative approach to a chosen theme. He often invents the themes of his works by himself, depicting the charming world born in his creative mind.
The work is called “The Lesson of Geography” and shows the girl who shows various countries on the globe to her little brother. The scene is painted in the Yastrebov's peculiar style. Silver paint shines beautifully through the oils in some areas of the scene including the characters' costumes and the mirror that is hung on the wall. Multicolored spangles are scattered throughout the scene creating a magic atmosphere.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the top of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed, titled, and dated (2007) by O. Yastrebov.
