This attractive box has been painted by O. Kachalkina from the village of Fedoskino. It shows the girl dressed in the costume of harlequin. She is a circus actor who shows her small performance juggling with multicolored balls.
The girl's costume and the balls shine brightly with silver paint used as an underlayer. Tiny spangles scattered throughout the scene sparkle dramatically with a variety of various tones. Gold paint is used to detail the girl's costume, to paint the string she holds in her hands, and to decorate the scene with gold dots shining brightly along with the spangles. Gold dots of various size are also scattered on the box's sides as an original ornamentation.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2005 and the title (“In the Circus”) on the box's exterior bottom.
