Description: Mishin from the village of Fedoskino is the artist who painted this superior piece of Russian lacquer artistry. The artist has masterfully drawn the portrait of a happy man with a jug of wine. To achieve a three-dimensional effect the artist has used a special technique. He has used a round-shaped piece of mother-of-pearl that shines brightly with a full spectrum of a rainbow as a background for the portrait. This effect is strengthened by a thick layer of translucent lacquer between a piece of mother-of-pearl and the portrait. Another shining round-shaped piece of mother-of-pearl covered with a thick layer of translucent lacquer decorates the box's exterior bottom.
The box is of an original design, and may be placed on the stand. Both the box and the stand are constructed from paper-mache and covered with black lacquer. The interior of the box is covered with red lacquer. To imitate a stone color, the box's sides and the stand are hued with crimson paint while the black lacquer is also apparent. The portrait is framed with a thin gold line. Two parallel gold lines wrap around the box's sides. The box's lid is hinged from the top of the portrait, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the title (“The Jug of Wine”) and the year of 2008.
