Description: The famous Fedoskino landscape painter, Dmitry Tipyakov, is the author of this splendid piece that shows a fragment from the fairy-tale "The Mistress of the Copper Mountain" written by Pavel Bazhov. Here we can see Katyusha who walks through the forest in search of Danilo. She approaches the Copper Mountain, and decides to penetrate into the deep cave.
Earthy tones accentuate the wild setting in the composition. Tipyakov uses a myriad of paints and thousands of minute brushstrokes to get the detail in the trees, plants and stones. Gold paint is used to highlight the plants, especially the big fern drawn in the foreground, and to paint the crown on the head of the tiny lizard painted in the left bottom corner.
The scene is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title and the year of 2006.
