This portrait of an old man has been painted by Alimpiada Dokuchaeva. A very lifelike palette is used so that the scene's realism is fully exploited. The light is very soft and the artist paints the shadows at the correct angles as they would seem from the point-of-view of the light source. Dokuchaeva has done a beautiful job of bringing this expressive portrait to life in a miniature state through masterful painting techniques.
The portrait is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the portrait, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
