Description: This splendid work continues Dmitry Tipyakov's “animal theme”. In the foreground he has painted a bear sleeping on the forest glade while in the background we can see Christ the Savior Cathedral. A bear is a symbol of Russia as well as Christ the Savior Cathedral is a symbol of modern Russia. Here Tipyakov has combined these symbols, and managed to create an interesting composition. Painting with a very thin brush, and using only grey tones of oils he has achieved the effect of pencil drawing.
The scene is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title ("Moscow. Christ the Savior Cathedral"), and the date of the box's completion (22.04.2008)
