This attractive piece is a creation of talented Fedoskino artist Irina Kosheleva who likes to depict animals on her boxes. Here the artist depicts a lovely dog holding a rose in its jaws.
The palette is chosen to give the dog a touch of realism. The fur of the dog, composed with extreme patience and effort, looks life-like. Gold powder that sparkles almost invisibly is used to highlight the background. A thin gold line is used to frame the lid's compositional artistry while another gold line decorates the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
