This appealing box continues Medvedeva's “The Wild Bird Series” that depicts birds in their native habitats. Here we can see a couple of woodpeckers sitting on the tree. The scene is masterfully painted in brown, grey and orange tones against the delicate blue background. Aluminum powder shines in the middle of the scene to focus the viewer's attention on the depicted birds.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The exterior is decorated with elegant gold ornaments. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title (“Big Motley Woodpeckers”) and the year of 2008.
