Description: Dmitry Tipyakov is the author of this stylish box. Dmitry is the son of the prominent Fedoskino landscape painter, Tatyana Tipyakova. He has his own painting style that is easily recognizable. He likes to depict animals and nature in his works.
The box continues Tipyakov's series of works that can be called “Animals”. It shows a humorous scene. Two bears have sneaked into the bee-garden to steal honey, and the competition between them begins. Each bear wants to eat as much honey as it can but its rival has the same aims. The bears start battling for honey. They roar so loudly that the whole village can hear them. The bee-keeper is very frightened. He rushes away from the bears to call people that can help him.
In this work the artist has used his favorite palette that consists of light grey and green tones of oils. To focus the viewer's attention on the bears, artist has painted them in bright browns against the pale grey-greenish background. All the details are scrupulously painted with a very thin brush.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior of the box while red lacquer is used to cover its interior. The scene is framed with a gold line; two parallel gold lines decorate the box's sides. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title (“Bears Battle for Honey”), and the village of Fedoskino.
