This glorious box has been painted by Dmitry Tipyakov from the village of Fedoskino. It shows the portrait of Yuriy Gagarin. On 12 April 1961, he became the first human in space and the first to orbit the Earth. He received medals from around the world for his pioneering tour in outer space.
The portrait is painted in various tones of blue oils, and demonstrates the unique painting technique of Dmitry Tipyakov. The portrait is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the portrait, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the title (“Yuriy Gagarin - the First Human in Space”).
