Description: The famous masterpiece “Portrait of the Boy with a Jar” painted in the nineteenth century by the outstanding Russian artist, Kapiton Zelentsov, inspired Marina Chikvasova to paint this work. The original portrait is exhibited in Moscow Tretyakov Gallery.
Kapiton Alexeevich Zelentsov (1790-1845) was an artist, a graphic artist and a lithographer. He was a pupil of A.G. Venitsyanov. Participated in various exhibitions since 1826. In 1833 Zelentsov won the title of an academician for his painting “The Interior of an Artist's Studio. He painted his works in the style of Venitsyanov's School, and produced genre scenes, portraits, and interiors. His works are exhibited in the State Hermitage Museum, the State Historical Museum, and in the museums of Arkhangelsk, Irkutsk, Tver, Ulan-Ude, Minsk and many other towns.
The outer edge of the lid is painted with a fine band of gold paint. The base of the box has two lines done in gold painted parallel to each other, the bottom line slightly thicker than the other.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the portrait, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the title.
