This gorgeous landscape was created by well known Fedoskino artist Vladimir Serdotetskov. His work brings you into a place, a setting of sketched reality. Delicate by nature, powerful by result. The artist creates great perspective and texture through color choice and by using the overlay method of application. Serdotetskov paints a portion of the artwork, thinly lacquering over it and then continues the process with the same section. This creates three-dimensional imagery in the composition. The most noteworthy portion of this method can be found in the large central tree to the right of the composition. By varying the size of the structures and by blending the forest into the sky, the artist dictates distance. Gray, peach, white, light olive and dark sky blue complete an impressive horizon.
The box is constructed from paper-mache made in the village of Fedoskino. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while dark red lacquer completes the interior of the work. Elegantly painted gold patterns adorn the edges of the box and its sides. The lid isn't hinged and the box rests on a small platform. The work is signed with the artist's name, title ("Winter"), village and year (2003).
