Irina Kosheleva is the talented Fedoskino artist responsible for this adorable piece of Russian lacquer artistry.
On this box the artist has painted a black-and-white colored cat pronouncedly staring at you. Working on this scene the artist has managed to catch the cat's playful mood, and express it by means of different artistic approaches. As typical of Fedoskino realism, the fur of the kitten and the expression upon its face are exceptionally executed.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while dark red lacquer completes the interior of the box. A hinge is fastened to the left of the composition and the box rests on a flat bottom. The lid's artistry is framed with a thin line of gold paint; the box's sides are decorated with one more gold line.
The work is signed with the artist's name.
