This interesting composition was painted by talented Fedoskino artist Pavel Govorun and was based on "The Lord of the Rings", an epic fantasy novel written by philologist J.R.R. Tolkien. The Lord of the Rings is considered to have had a great effect on modern fantasy; the impact of Tolkien's works is such that the use of the words "Tolkienian" and "Tolkienesque" has been recorded in the Oxford English Dictionary!
The palette is based on contrast colors. Warm brown tones are successfully combined here with grey and partly reds.
The painting is framed with gold line and the sides are decorated with two parallel lines too.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the left of the scene, and rests flat. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title and the village of Fedoskino.
