This brilliant example of Fedoskino realism has been created by Boris Shavyrin. The box shows the full-length portrait of a falconer admiring his bird. In old Russia falconers had to supply game to the tsar's court and got some benefits therefore. The background is filled with Russian medieval architecture.
Bright red oils are used to paint the costume of the falconer while the background is painted in light grey tones. Silver powder shines through the falconer's sleeves, his hat and is also used to highlight the far background.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The exterior is decorated with rich gold ornaments. A hinge is fastened to the top of the portrait, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2010.
