This elegant box is a creation of M.N. Medvedeva from the village of Fedoskino. Butterflies and flowers is the favorite theme of this talented artist and in this work she again returns to this subject. The box depicts beautiful yellow and black butterfly sitting on the tree. Gold metal powder shines through the background and creates a magic effect.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The edges of the lid are decorated with a simple gold pattern. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and the year of 2010.
