This elegant box is a creation of Marie Mashkova from the village of Fedoskino. Butterflies and flowers is the favorite theme of this talented artist and in this work she returns to this subject. The box depicts two beautiful yellow and brown butterflies sitting on the tree. Silver metal powder shines through the background and creates a magic effect.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The edges of the lid are decorated with a golden pattern. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and the year of 2010.
