Sergey Kirsanov from the village of Fedoskino is known as a talented landscape painter. Being enchanted with the beauty of Russian nature in winter, he created a series of works painted on this theme. Each of them is perceptively and realistically painted showing a peculiar charm of Russian countryside. This work continues this series, and depicts a small Russian village in winter. Gray and brown tones are predominated here for the reproduction of winter dull day. A piece of mother-of-pearl is set into the sky.
The scene is framed with so called "scan patterns" composed of tiny shapes hand punched from aluminum metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box. For additional decoration the box's sides are adorned with silver dust scattered against the dark background. The box's bottom is covered with black lacquer; the interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The box has a hinge from the top of the composition, and rests on a borded bottom. Signed with the artist's name.
