Description: Yevgeniy Potekhin is the author of this traditional Fedoskino box that features a woman riding in the carriage. Clouds are getting heavier and heavier and looks like the rain is coming. The coachman whips the three horses with the reins making them race faster. On the back of the composition we can see beautiful summer landscape and the trees at the edge of a forest.
The scene is well painted in the realistic style. Grey and grey-blue tones are dominated here.
The theme of speeding troika is traditional for Russian lacquer miniature art. This tradition is coming from the very beginning of lacquer ware production in Russia when the first lacquer workshop was founded by Piotr Korobov in the village of Danilkovo (now Fedoskino). At that time the themes of peasants' everyday life were very popular among Fedoskino painters.
The sides of the lid are decorated with two gold lines as well as the painting is also bordered with a golden line.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests flat. The work is signed by the artist.
