This superior Russian lacquer artistry was created by the talented Oleg Yastrebov of Fedoskino. His ability to depict strikingly decorative compositions is second to none.
The work is called "A Dance of the Night Butterfies", and features a girl dancing and playing a tambourine, and Butterflies follows a tambourine.
The scene is painted in yellow and white paints against the black background.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the composition, and the box rests flat.
