It's a dull winter day. The rays of the cold sun struggle through the dense grey clouds. The banks of the small forest river are covered with deep snowdrifts. The nature waits for the spring warmth.
Various shades of blue oils help produce an atmosphere of a gloomy winter day. Bright silver paint highlights the trunks of the trees. A brilliant piece of mother-of-pearl shines through the trees drawn in the foreground.
Silver paint and mother-of-pearl also help to enliven the monotonous color palette.
The scene is framed with a gold line, while the box's sides are adorned with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to complete the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom.
